3rd Rate is a punk band hailing from the South Bay area of Los Angeles. Formed in 2011, the band played its first show at Harold's Place in San Pedro, California. Initially, 3rd Rate was a three-piece ensemble consisting of Ruben Cervantes (vocals/guitar), Luis Diharce (drums), and Stephen Finn (bass). In 2012, Angel Mora joined the band as rhythm guitarist and co-singer, expanding their lineup.
Throughout the years, 3rd Rate has performed alongside various acts such as Left Alone, Aggression, and Circle, and participated in festivals like Smelvis Records’ Skalloween. However, in 2018, the departure of Luis Diharce led the group to take a hiatus.
In 2023, the band reformed with Joey Jewette on drums for a brief period, reigniting their passion for live performances. On February 4, 2024, 3rd Rate welcomed Victor "Vamps" Cisneros on guitar, adding a new melodic dynamic to their sound. Vamps played his first show with 3rd Rate alongside Dez Cadena of Black Flag and Misfits on vocals. Despite Joey's departure in April 2024, his influence continued to inspire the band. On May 7, 2024, Marc Death from Black Rose Phantoms joined as the drummer and began recording for the upcoming 3rd Rate EP.
Over the years, 3rd Rate has evolved into a melodic punk rock powerhouse, seamlessly transitioning from upbeat to aggressive in seconds, and continuing to captivate audiences with their dynamic performances.
