Formed out of the ashes of Britpop and Grunge, 50hz emerged from the Birmingham scene in the late 90's putting on a series of unforgettable shows. Having relocated to London, the band came to the attention of Oxford based indie label Shifty Disco who released live favourites "Armchair Army/"Welcome to the World" as part of their monthly singles club in 2001, receiving support from Radio 1's Steve Lamacq.
As the band's live following grew, it was by pure chance that filmmaker Jimmy Simak overheard the band's music playing in a clothes shop in Covent Garden just as he was helping to assemble the "Long Way Round OST" for Ewan McGregor's latest Sky One TV Series. Several 50hz tracks subsequently found their way onto the TV Show's soundtrack giving the band worldwide exposure, albeit to an audience largely made up of motorcycle and travel enthusiasts.
The 2006 album "Here Goes Everything" was recorded by Ian Grimble (Manic Street Preachers, Travis) and there was actually at least another album's worth of material that had been amassed over the preceding years. This would never see the light of day until the release of the "Singles and Demos 2000-2007" album some 12 years after the band played their final gig.
Throughout their 10 year career, 50hz never really aligned with a specific genre - instead their twisted mix of crunching guitars and soaring melodies would find its way into the hearts and minds of only those who were brave enough to seek it out.
