To call Bahraini guitarist and producer 7mnd “progressive metal” is a disservice. Last year’s Cataclysm EP showed an artist who’s just as comfortable drawing on trance or ambient music as he is on metal. New single "Life After" and the upcoming "Incredible" broaden those horizons more, with a knack for pop hooks and memorability without sacrificing any of its technicality or shifting groove. The backbone is clearly heavy, with equal parts TesseracT and Devin Townsend, even Gojira; but the overall effect is far broader, a true example of lateral-thinking music that knows its roots but refuses to be confined to just metal.
