Embracing freedom of expression and playful yet spirited rebellion, 7UPPERCUTS is the pop-punk love child of Dính (guitar), Aki (bass), and Callum "Anh Lâm" Rollo (drums).
Drawing influence from genre heavyweights like Blink 182, Green Day, and Sum 41, but with a distinct Vietnamese flavor, this flamboyant trio is at the forefront of a flourishing Sài Gòn music scene. Since forming in 2017, the group has crafted a flurry of effervescent tunes imbued with pop, rock, and hip-hop elements. Their delivery takes inspiration from the frantic energy of the city streets around them and the infinite possibilities of youth.
The debut album Summer Jam dropped to warm reviews in 2018 before the runaway success of “Wave Alpha”—a collaboration with idiosyncratic Saigonese rapper Cam—skyrocketed their popularity with a new generation of Vietnamese desperate for fresh sounds. The boys have been riding the wave ever since, and the release of their adventurous CHÁI MÁI EP alongside hit anthems “No Internet” and “Yêu” further propelled the band toward mainstream stardom.
In recent times, the group has dropped “Đừng Yêu Người Nổi Tiếng,” “Trốn Tìm,” and “DOPAMINE,” a series of singles hinting at a more diverse and expansive sound while retaining the vitality of their early work. Those trademark hooks and sun-drenched melodies remain, and fans can expect even more variety from the self-titled new album, coming late summer 2024.
