Prize-winning songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Big Al leads A Little Space, a smooth jazz group from SoCal fronted by vocalist Terrell Moran. Though very much grounded in the smooth jazz style, A Little Space offers elements of many styles such as funk and salsa within its music. The group's songs range from melodic vocal pop to intimate ballads, built upon the sounds of such artists as Steely Dan, Al Jarreau, and Sting. Big Al (born Alan Gruskoff in Ann Arbor, MI) primarily plays bass in A Little Space and also performs most of the other instruments on the group's 2002 self-titled debut album. In addition, he writes the group's songs and won the 2001 John Lennon Songwriting Contest for Latin/Jazz Instrumental with his song "Yes I Would." Vocalist Terrell Moran, originally from Dayton, OH, performs musical theater in the Los Angeles area and also as a church choir director. Contributing musicians include saxman Dean Roubicek and guitarists Derek Soros and Michael A. Willis. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
