A Rainy Night In is the art pop project centered around singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nathan Heck. Originally formed as a duo in 2017, the group has since evolved into a loose collective of sympathetic musicians that each bring their own unique musical taste and vocabulary to commune in the sacred realm of DIY music.
Their first full-length album Cautious Optimism & Other Pickup Lines was released in September 2018, delighting fans of “innocent, intricate electro-pop” (Ray Roa). But these days the group is working on a follow up record that features a more live approach, thanks to several lineup changes over the last couple years.
“A Rainy Night In’s May 2020 single Bleeding Heart is a great gateway into the Tampa band’s self-described twee-pop sound, but the band’s output is much more complex than bubblegum-pop averse listeners might think. The foundation of A Rainy Night In’s approach is reminiscent of a young Broken Social Scene’s use of horns and keyboards to craft that beloved BSS-dreamscape.” -Stephanie Powers
FFO: Belle & Sebastian, The Ocean Blue, The Cardigans, Camera Obscura, BMX Bandits, The Pastels, Orange Juice, Haircut 100, Yo La Tengo, The Magnetic Fields, The Field Mice, Jens Lekman, Rocketship, Pearl & The Oysters, Dent May
