A Thousand Times Yes

A Thousand Times Yes was formed in 1999 by the creative vision of Joseph Mason Hoffman in East Lansing, MI. Hoffman befriended drummer and fellow Michigan State student, Greg Evangelista and had a brief run as a duo. The signature sound of Hoffman’s electrified acoustic guitar and folk-cum-rock vocals were soon rounded out by a full band dynamic. Andrea Fontana-Burdick (vocals, electric guitar, keyboard) and Audra Marks (vocals, bass, flute) enlisted into the fold and the folk-pop soon added elements of shoegaze, riot grrrl punk and alt-country.

While playing as a four-piece the band developed on stage personas and a mythical history that they used to build their mystique- Casper Von Hoffman (Hoffman), Lull Tucker (Evangelista), Annah Planet (Burdick) and Sparx (Marks). The quartet recorded their first album, “Lazerguns & Lassoes” at Hoffman’s family cottage in Northern Michigan.

In 2001, after Burdick’s exit, the band was reinvigorated by a new music scene and began writing as a three-piece. In 2003, they released their second full length album- “Michigan”. There was more focus on the vocal interplay of Hoffman and Marks as the music became more dynamic and aggressive.

Though media darlings in Detroit, the band never achieved critical success. They released a second album “Heart Beats,” in 2006 but disbanded shortly after.
