Beginning songwriting at the tender age of 7, abigail alma&#39;s music weaves together emotions and experiences from childhood to the early adulthood she now finds herself in at the age of 24. abigail alma historically focused on live performances with her music, having performed at various locations in Manchester (Gulliver&#39;s NQ, Jimmy&#39;s, Night People) and Durham (The Drunken Duck, The Angel). Rooted in the folk songwriting tradition, these performances were often folk-acoustic in nature, with inspiration drawn from many of the greats, including <a href="spotify:artist:5l8VQNuIg0turYE1VtM9zV" data-name="Leonard Cohen">Leonard Cohen</a>, Hank Williams, and the more current <a href="spotify:artist:4MXUO7sVCaFgFjoTI5ox5c" data-name="Sufjan Stevens">Sufjan Stevens</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:1r1uxoy19fzMxunt3ONAkG" data-name="Phoebe Bridgers">Phoebe Bridgers</a>.

However, she found herself dissatisfied with repeated acoustic performances. This led to her working solo on songwriting and arrangement for her music before  choosing to work with Durham-based producers Samuel Shepherd and Gemma Jackson. In the recording process, abigail alma&#39;s wider sonic influences became ever more present, with Shepherd encouraging her to follow her more experimental whims. Decorating her narrative folk songwriting with ambient electronics, spoken word features, and rhythmic drive, the result is a body of work which is at once reflective and dismissive of the folk genre and its components. 

Rooted near Manchester, abigail alma&#39;s debut single, <a href="spotify:track:0lo2dsyTfrdZdPg3jEbNU0" data-name="Mother">Mother</a> was released on the 8th September, 2023, and her debut EP <a href="spotify:track:3IaLhGfLWcP3AfsQxEMhns" data-name="Eternal Mind">Eternal Mind</a> was released on the 3rd November, 2023.
