Above Above is the nom de plume of Philip Skovgaard, Danish singer-songwriter and producer, best known for his work with folk rock band <a href="spotify:artist:2kSJHRjOSAsozrkALDMuVd" data-name="Big Sky Country">Big Sky Country</a>. Above Above debuted with «<a href="spotify:album:3LOoAWXdB6LceTP2QKSjlx" data-name="Black Marble">Black Marble</a>», an album that embraces folktronica and its subgenres.
«The majority of this record was recorded in my two-bedroom apartment, while my downstairs neighbor was playing whatever was on the top of the charts that week. It was a challenging atmosphere to work in, to say the least!». This year he celebrates his first decade as an active musician and recording artist.
As much as the record was a creative process for Skovgaard, and a way to adapt to the current state of music, it was the rediscovering of his own singing voice that set everything in motion:
«I had to rethink everything I knew about making music in order to make this record. Through the use of processing and harmonizers I finally found the missing link and a way to rediscover my own voice. This impacted the music in many ways, but mainly the arrangements. The next step was to break away from the verse-chorus form. I was able to move freely without any predetermined rules. Being rid of this form gave me new energy, which flows through the entire record.»
Above Above released their debut album «<a href="spotify:album:3LOoAWXdB6LceTP2QKSjlx" data-name="Black Marble">Black Marble</a>» in March 2018.
