Acolyte is a shoegaze band originating from Oklahoma City that started in late 2021 as a three-piece. While shoegaze is the band’s primary sound, their music cross-incorporates influenced styles of post-hardcore, nu-metal/alternative metal, punk, heavy alternative rock and even a little bit of funk/groove rock and metal genres.
Drummer/lead vocalist Jamie Staunton (also known as ItMightBeHuman) and guitarist Aaron Gulley originally started the band from being friends at high school, and bassist Aidan Crutcher did not join until a matter of weeks later through a connection with Aaron. They would spend time perfecting their sound and writing music for the next couple of years until Aaron would meet Noah Moix, drummer for Bliss, at a party and befriend him. This would eventually make Noah the new, additional guitarist for Acolyte. Refining the band’s sound to its most definitive image yet.
Today, Acolyte displays developments as a powerful wall of sound and a versatile band appreciated among the local Oklahoma music scene. As they continue to cultivate their following and expand their way outward across the country, their album “The Bliss of Fall, the Grief of Spring” is anticipated to release in the summer of 2024.
