Adam Casey & the Liminal Choir make music inspired by Don Cherry’s 1970s ‘astral jazz’ output and Alice Coltrane’s ‘Journey to Satchidananda’ album, particularly the mesmeric bass playing of Charlie Haden.
Their first album, Nether | Aether explores the journey below, and then, the transcendental journey back to earth, and continuing, above it and beyond.
This is the first album from Adam that was composed, initially, on contrabass, and, in the later stages, arranged for full band. Katie Walsh (aka katheros) wrote and arranged most of the choral parts throughout the album, which are a centrepiece of the work.
