My name is Adi Yacobi, I’m an Israeli singer and songwriter. I founded the “Women Empowerment Music Project” which engages women and girls in social issues such as body positivity, domestic abuse, self-acceptance, tolerance, gender equality, diversity and inclusion and gender pay gap. The WEM Project empowers women, through music and visual arts, to impact their lives and the communities in which they live.
I combine my academic knowledge, a BA in Psychology and Sociology - specializing in feminism and gender, in the songs I write, with the understanding that lyrics are powerful - they shape our beliefs and create a better reality for each and every one of us. Music makes these and other sensitive issues accessibile to diverse audiences.
The Project has recently been endorsed by The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (known as UN Women). In addition, the project has received exposure in ELLE - International women’s magazine, a number of prestigious Israeli TV channels and leading newspapers, and International Women's organizations. It was an honor to be invited by the Andrea Bocelli Foundation to sing, and present the WEM Project this year.
The project's social entrepreneurship and activist activities include conducting research and submitting formal proposals and solutions to government.
