Aemaerth

Aemaerth was established in Bogotá, Colombia in 2013 by Alex de Borba, who serves as the band’s vocalist, lyricist, and composer. Originally from Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira Island, Alex sought to merge ancient historical themes with contemporary metal. In 2022, Aemaerth underwent a reformation, introducing a distinctive lineup. Alex continued as the core composer and vocalist, joined by Mario Díaz on lead guitar and Edward Amaya on rhythm guitar, both also part of the Colombian band Behind the Mask. The lineup was further enriched by Alvaro Batista on piano and David Cardenas on drums, although David departed in July 2024. This eclectic mix, blending the cultural heritages of Portugal and Colombia, defines their dynamic and diverse musical collaboration.

Aemaerth fuses progressive technical death metal with classical and Baroque elements. Their unique approach, informed by opera studies, blends intricate musicianship with rich orchestrations. This distinctive sound is characterized by advanced arrangements and a sense of antiquity, setting them apart in the genre.

Aemaerth weaves ancient narratives with contemporary history, employing Old Latin and Arcane English to craft a haunting soundscape. Rooted in meticulous research and influenced by Sumerian mythology, their lyrics explore themes of ancient knowledge and human origins. This unique blend of language and historical depth evokes nostalgia and a profound connection to the past.
