Elegy
There is a place we’d go
To hide from them
The day was young
And the night our friend
I’d read a lyric, or hum a few
A world imagined, they came into view
Adjacent to conscious
A lingering daydream
Drifting around me
I yearned for a memory
Into a forest
Not fantastically foreign
Light like evenings
Of peace, the euphoric
Together then, hand in hand
We ran outside
And played pretend
When dad would ask the lawn be mowed
And mom would laugh with baby bird Beaux
I’ll come here
When I’m old and gray
To laugh fondly upon the words we’d say
I’ll miss you all, and I won’t like the change
My heart, my home
My river grange
Elegy
There is a place we’d go
To hide from them
The day was young
And the night our friend
I’d read a lyric, or hum a few
A world imagined, they came into view
Adjacent to conscious
A lingering daydream
Drifting around me
I yearned for a memory
