Agent Provocateur

Last updated: 9 hours ago

London, England-based indie band Agent Provocateur comprises Sugar J (percussion), Joseph Corre (vocals) and Daniel Peppe (bass). They initially described themselves as ‘the rhythms of the Chemical Brothers with the psychobabble of the Happy Mondays’. Their debut single, ‘Kicks’, was released in 10-inch format on Wall Of Sound Records in 1995, and saw the band combine rock guitar with samples in a manner not dissimilar to that espoused by Urban Dance Squad. Although primarily a studio-based operation, they did make a memorable live London debut supporting Royal Trux. Their 1997 album was disappointing, with Torres’ voice and messy arrangements proving irritating over the course of a whole album. Peppe went on to record with sometime Agent Provocateur guitarist Steve White under the Themroc moniker. Corre is the son of Malcolm McLaren and designer Vivian Westwood. The band reunited in 2004.
