Born in Lakewood, Ohio, Aidan Meany began his journey in music at age 15 as a self-taught producer. Throughout his high school years, he honed a creative methodology rooted in capturing and reenvisioning the mental and physical vicissitudes of experience.
Fusing funk, alternative rap, hip-hop, with more experimental sounds, Aidan Meany and his music leave no genre untouched. To Meany, songwriting and producing are a single, fluid process—not overly planned and calculated but instead crafted in pursuit of natural rhythm and spontaneity. These decisions open up a multitude of sounds, forging space for inspiration to take hold and guiding the birth of new melodies.
In summer of 2021, Meany released his first album, The Real Thing, a musical journey exploring such topics as mental illness, coming-of-age, and mystery in the metaphysical world. The Real Thing evolved into a two-year project, unconstrained by deadlines and uncompromised by creative sacrifice.
Meany’s intention in creating and producing albums is to make accessible to all listeners his own records of personal experience: “At the end of the day, it’s about connection. We need more of our emotions to be validated and talked about. I want to bring a seldom-seen level of honesty to hip-hop. The more honest we are with ourselves and others, the easier it is to come together.”
