Aidan Smyth begins his musical career with his first single, “Something Loving,” a testimonial to the limitations of friendship and love. Written and arranged in his college apartment, Smyth’s “Something Loving” is a snapshot into the struggles of finding connection in an increasingly disconnected world.

Smyth uses nostalgia and bittersweet melodies to fuel his songs, many of which take inspiration from his experiences growing up in Bethesda, Maryland—a place near and dear to his storytelling about the human experience.

Playing with his band, Venus In Transit, gave him invaluable performing experience on the college band circuit, even affording him the opportunity to play at St. Louis’s legendary Blueberry Hill Duck Room. With the exception of a few minor releases on SoundCloud in high school, it wasn’t until his junior year of college that Aidan really began to take his music seriously. Performing at open mics throughout St. Louis gave him the confidence he needed to believe that he had messages and songs worth sharing with an audience that beyond his family and friends.

Among Smyth’s musical influences are Manchester Orchestra, Death Cab for Cutie, Shakey Graves, and The Tallest Man on Earth. The impact of these artists on his work can be heard in the grounding effects of his music, which often stirs up the intangible within his listeners: to make the incomprehensible known and felt.
