Akase is a collaboration between London-based tech-house producer Midland (Harry Agius) and singer/songwriter Robert Redway. Even though Midland is better known for producing tracks intended for the dancefloor, his songs written with Redway are more restrained and moody, with emotionally vulnerable lyrics complementing the detailed yet not overwhelming backing tracks. The two friends began working together in 2012, but didn't rush to produce any material, sporadically gathering for informal brainstorm sessions, and accumulating an album's worth of songs by 2014. The duo signed to !K7 in 2015, and two singles ("Murmur" and "Rust") appeared on the label that year. Partially mixed and co-produced by Ewan Pearson, Akase's debut album, Graspers, arrived in early 2016. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
