Al Shatea was a Palestinian rock band from Haifa (1988–1995), known for fusing rock with socially conscious lyrics that reflected the First Intifada. Formed by childhood friends Kareem Nasser (keyboards), Raymond Haddad (bass), Sami Kanboura (keyboards), and Samer Azar (drums), the lineup later included Klofa Totary (guitar) and Safaa Ammar (vocals).
Their debut album Waiting blended melancholic melodies and lyrical reflections on identity and struggle, with Utopia (المدينة) becoming a defining anthem. Though the band disbanded in 1995, Al Shatea’s legacy continues to inspire Palestine’s alternative scene, symbolizing hope, resilience, and the enduring spirit of a generation.
