Alexandros Tzouganakis was born in Chania, Crete. His music is a fresh, alternative take on Cretan folk music.
At the age of seven he settled in Athens with his family. Since then, Crete has always been on his mind and has guided him.
Alexandros grew up in a musical family, as his father is Michail Tzouganakis.
The sounds of the lute, the sazi, the outi, the contrabass, the lyre and other musical instruments which he listened to his father Michail playing, attracted his interest and impacted on his approach to music.
The sounds and melodies of Crete became a part of his everyday life. At the age of four he started to become more intrigued by these musical instruments.
At the age of seven, the day came when he was given his first lute and since then he has never put it down. He began to develop his musical identity based on the originality of his family's musical heritage.
At the age of ten, at his father's concert, he performed in public for the first time, playing percussion. Since the age of 15 he has played in concerts with his father in Greece and abroad.
In his twenties he began studying at the National Conservatory of Athens while also attending the University of Derby for Civil Engineering.
In 2013 he published his first song with both music and lyrics entitled, ''Oneiro'' | "Dream".
