Alfredo S. Buenaventura

Dr. Alfredo Santos Buenaventura earned his Associate in Arts degree from UST in 1951. He then transferred to Centro Escolar University and earned a degree in Music, major in composition and conducting. In 1961, he acquired a Certificate in Sacred Music from the Gregorian Institute of Manila based at La Concordia College, with further specialization in Organ Music. All this time, he was the official organist of the Manila Cathedral, the position which logically made him the official Philippine delegate to the International Congress of Sacred Music in Germany in 1961. In 1989, he was conferred the degree Doctor of Music, honoris causa, by the Philippine Women’s University in recognition of his outstanding achievement in this field.

Dr. Buenaventura has taught Music at the University of the Philippines (UP), St. Paul University, Philippine Women’s University, Sta. Isabel College, La Concordia College, and other schools. He also conducted seminars and workshops in Music Education, composition, conducting, and other aspects of music for teachers and music professionals in various schools and companies while being the Dean and professor of Music at Centro Escolar University. He continues to be invited to give lectures, to judge in musical contests, and even to do musical compositions for special celebrations. The spring of his musical talents never runs dry and to this date, society still demands of him so much and always comes up to expectations with pride, fervor, and joy.
