Veteran songwriter and music producer AW took up guitar, still his first instrument, at the age of 11. Musically he grew up in Aylesbury's golden age of Friars Club and was active in the town's art rock/funk scene in the late 80s and early 90s, before moving to London to study ethnomusicology. He learned mbira with the late great Chartwell Dutiro and played Thai fiddle at the feet of the Princess of Thailand. AW's recent music brings together top flight international collaborators and reflective, bittersweet songs about longing and yearning, non-conformity, personal struggles and hope in the modern dark age. He practices nature connectedness and fairy tale living in the Chiltern Hills 30 miles west of London, dancing to disco and obsessing over the songcraft of Taylor Swift.
