Alkyone, is a singer, songwriter and a musician currently living in the mountains of northern Greece.
She learned to play the piano at the age of six, listening to her father playing at an old abandoned piano in their house. It was her father´s love for folklore music that led her to follow him around, singing in various musical concerts and gatherings. She studied classical piano, but it wasn´t until much later that she admitted writing her own songs, following the craft of songwriting.
Growing up in a small town surrounded by mountains and rivers, led her to grow an immense love for nature and birds. Her stage name, Alkyone is a tribute to a dream she often had, in which she was a bird.
Aesthetically, her music is deeply influenced by indie-pop, cinematic and folklore elements. Her years as a choir member, led her to incorporate haunting choirs and vocal backgrounds to her songs, stating that “there´s something so extremely primal and powerful in a choir, that it just felt right using it”. She firmly believes in the power of music. For, music can shape ideas. And ideas can actually shape the world.
