Allotropes

Allotropes are a UK futurist band. Following an early start in punk they became identified with the early industrial and cassette culture scenes with the release of their first cassette album "Drop the Bomb" (1980) A second album followed in 1982 with the more eclectic “All Trees”. By 1984 and “Allotropes#3” the sound was purely x0x-style analog electronics with Steve as the sole member for over 30 years. the eventual plan being the automation of the creative process. This was naïve during the 8-bit era. Output suffered apart from a few gigs and some tracks on a remix CD "Buckminsterfullerene" (1998) .

The long hiatus finally broke with a flurry of new releases in 2013; a single “BlisterPac”, an EP and a double-length album "Terminus" distributed electronically as downloads. Experiments in vocal synthesis from this period developed into the adoption of Vocaloid voice synthesis on “The Girl From Uncanny Valley” (2015) and “#6” (2016).

In addition to the virtual singers, 2018's “Back to the Cloud” added an expanded line-up including 80s collaborator Chris North and wider availability on their own label - ShepardTone Records

The 2020's began with the prescient single "God's Engineer" followed by the "Plagueful Cadences " album. A sequel arrived in 2021 "EXPT#9GoF". 2023 marked the 10th album, the double length "A.G.I.", while 2024 saw four singles be released from the current "Tulpa Apocrypha" album and the final realization of a 40 year dream...
