In 2011 Elena Pinto taught herself to write songs. This may have seemed out of the blue at the time, but it came naturally. Growing up in Costa Rica, she sang in school plays, choirs, next to her speakers (on roller skates), the Pacific Ocean... She memorized dozens of songs, analyzed lyrics, and thought she would someday write her own. Her path to songwriting would be a winding road through other art forms and several cities.

Elena studied art for 7 years in Denver, CO and at Parsons School of Design in New York. She worked as an artist and a muralist in NYC and Connecticut. In 2011, she experienced two major losses weeks before moving to California. When she arrived, she felt the need to begin writing songs, so she started experimenting on her laptop.

Indigo Sky, Alnilam’s first album, featured 10 songs Elena wrote on top of Turkish composer Serhat Arslan ‘s guitar pieces. Described as indie, alternative, and dream pop, they have been added to over 500 listener playlists, including "Sailing La Vagabonde Official."

The new EP, Under the Sun, is a collaboration with Daniel Wright, from the band Song Preservation Society, & lead singer for Radio Skies. It features several of the same multi-cultural studio musicians as Indigo Sky, plus Marcus Kincy on keyboards. Sandro Morales Santoro ‘s string arrangements were performed by a full orchestra. Produced by Manu Jimenez & mastered by Eric Boulanger in LA. The 5 tracks were released as singles, April - August 2022.
