Formed in Lausanne in late 2018, Am Samstag (which means “Saturday” in German) plays a dirty and savage grunge sprinkled with a light touch of pop and a big dose of punk. Live, the band is known for its explosive performances, strong stage presence and irreverent humor. Am Samstag’s dynamic range goes from full power to very quiet moments, all accompanied by nihilistic, often sarcastic lyrics rooted in today’s social unrest or in the intimacy of the band members.
The band released the debut EP "1" in February 2019 on the band’s own label Black Market Music. Recorded in Fribourg by Sergio Gaultier, the tracks were mixed by Jack Endino and mastered by Chris Hanzsek in the US. To promote the release the members embarked on a mini-tour, playing a total of 25 concerts in Switzerland, France and the United States.
In February 2020, the Am Samstag returned to Seattle to record the album DUALISM with Jack Endino. Produced and mixed by the latter and once again mastered by Chris Hanzsek, the 13-track record was released on March 18, 2022 on Black Market Music. The album received very positive feedback from critics, comparing Am Samstag’s energy and songwriting to Nirvana, Babes In Toyland, Minor Threat, Mudhoney or The Stooges. Once again, the band embarked on a new mini-tour of 20 shows accross Switzerland, France and the UK in 2022.
The "We’re All Sheep…" tour will resume in 2023 with new dates in Europe and elsewhere.
