Growing up in Washington, Blaschke learned to play guitar at 14 and began landing shows in local venues by the time she was 16. Inspired by the lo-fi and literate alt-rock of artists like Liz Phair, Elliott Smith, and Mary Lou Lord—along with a cassette copy of Joni Mitchell’s Blue— Blaschke steadily developed her voice as a songwriter, and in 1999 released her debut album, Red Letter.
Blaschke writes in poems and confessional impressions, moving from simple to raw to transcendent with ethereal and psychedelic effect. And, while prolific creativity has guided her path as a songwriter through the years, that Amy Blaschke’s dreamy, airy, singular purr is perhaps the most affecting instrument in the mix is a testament to the sheer vitality of her recordings.
The single, “Precious,” is a part of Amy Blaschke's 7th full-length album, Newage Daydream, which feels both alive with the presence of live performances as well as cinematically surreal-noir. Think Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell’s song-child serenading you within the glow of Blade Runner. The title is a nod to Bowie's Moonage Daydream, while Blaschke wields the word "Newage" to provoke the listener into transformational spaces.
Recorded at Resistor Studio in Nashville, TN, throughout 2018 and 2019, Newage Daydream was produced, engineered, and mixed by Joshua Grange, drawing on both vintage and futuristic sound palettes.
