Amy landed on the South African music scene with a thud of success trailing in her wake thanks to her debut single, ‘Formidable’ Her chart success continued with the single landing on the KFM Top 40, the East Coast Radio top 40 and the 5FM top 10 Pop chart with Smash Afrika. The success achieved off an EP release like Amy’s cemented her as a force to be reckoned within the South African music industry and earned her her first SAMA nomination for ‘Best Pop Album’.
Today, Amy continues to feed hers as well as the souls of all of Cape Town’s creative non-conformists on her debut EP, She and she is preparing for the release of some new music which includes the first single off her upcoming 9-track EP entitled, “Petrichor”. Amy explains the meaning behind the title name - “Petrichor means the smell after the rain. In my first debut single the main line was "I hope it's raining on the other side". I wrote that album in such a heartbroken place and this new album I finally made it through to the other side and felt like I could make music without a heavy weight on my chest. This album is a lot more personal and introspective for me.”
This new EP is dipped in nostalgia, using old sounds and putting Amy’s own take on them. Influences for the EP include the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Twinpeaks and Patsy Cline to name a few.
