The Norwegian power trio An Ananas emerged out of the 60s-influenced indie pop and garage rock band The Jessica Fletchers, which released four albums from 1997 to 2007. An Ananas was formed by The Jessica Fletchers guitarist Rune Somdal-Åmodt, bassist Andreas Münster Mastrup and drummer Jan Henning Sørensen in 2010, to continue their musical adventures.
An Ananas formed to explore the possibilities of an unruly and powerful rock sound, merging influences of power pop and psychedelic musings.
An Ananas released their debut album Do You Hear What I Hear in the Scream in 2013, featuring big riffs and psychedelic melodies in what often was rather nerve-wrecking song structures. The musical approach drew on alternative rock and classical guitar pop, oscillating between soothing vocal harmonies, thunderous bass riffs and dissonant and psychedelic guitars. Still, the quirky song structures, often fast paced and jerky, created a dizzying experience.
Their second studio album titled Winning All the Races was released in November 2017, serving up disciplined power pop, bigger riffs and more experimental psychedelia, all while continuing their explorations of the possibilities of the traditional power trio format of bass, guitar and drums.
