Andre Kumar started his musical journey at age 6 with classic Indian vocal training. Born in Morristown, NJ, son of two immigrants, Andre maintained a steady cultural balance in his musical exploration in his early years. Over the course of his schooling, he dropped vocals and picked up several musical instruments ranging from alto saxophone to mridungam (Indian percussion) to violin. Though his overall interest in the arts did not waver, his specific genre interests were mercurial, though gained a deep connection with punk rock, jazz and funk.

At New York University, while undertaking a major in marketing and finance, Andre decided to venture into a professional vocal career. Surprisingly, Andre picked up the vocal slack beginning to freestyle, influenced largely by his music tastes, and by his closest friends. He quickly started recording and pushing his music.

Several factors pushed Andre Kumar towards the Rock music he puts out today : reconvening with his high school friend and now producer <a href="spotify:artist:2cvFtt7wLLWgotkzmJMMah" data-name="Tooloudsorry">Tooloudsorry</a>; an overwhelming sense of nostalgia around rock music from <a href="spotify:artist:7oPftvlwr6VrsViSDV7fJY" data-name="Green Day">Green Day</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6XyY86QOPPrYVGvF9ch6wz" data-name="Linkin Park">Linkin Park</a> among others; the realization that his voice was somewhat unique; recent battles with bipolar depression; and his boredom with rap. Andre is equally focused on melody and meaningfulness in his lyrics.
