Andrew is a composer, producer, and drummer who enjoys dabbling with other instruments and is inspired by a myriad of artists including Porcupine Tree, Radiohead, Aesop Rock, Bayonne, BOOTS, Demians, DJ Shadow, Hundred Waters, Karnivool, Sylvan Esso, TesseracT, and the Soil & the Sun, among many others.
The primary inspiration for the album "Passage" was a simple love of sound. "A synth note, a drum loop, or a happy accident of cables and knobs grabbed hold of me, begged for company, and invited me to give it movement and story, and that was reason enough to work toward discovering what they might become. Over time, though, these songs began to resonate with me in more specific ways and the themes that emerged have often been close to mind in recent years: our idea of self, the identities we adopt from others and the world around us, the events in life that surprise and shake us, the growing awareness of distance between who we think we are and who we might be, the ways in which we live with that dissonance, and even larger questions about life, death, grief, and hope.
I love that passages can be found in so many contexts that are meaningful to me: books, music, mountains, and journeys of all kinds. Maybe you'll resonate with this music in similar ways. Perhaps more likely, your response will be different. Either way, I wish for you a meaningful embrace of your creative process in the passages ahead. "
