Angie Wells has a warm and smokey voice. She really understands how to get inside a lyric to bring the music to life be it a tender ballad, a soulful blues or a toe tapping swinging tune.
Angie's childhood was filled with music. Her mother sang gospel and played piano. Her father was a devoted jazz and blues fan. Angie's love of jazz and blues began at a very early age on Sunday afternoons as she sat with her dad listening to his collection on vinyl.
At the young age of five Angie had the once in a lifetime experience of attending an assembly for her kindergarten class where a sweet looking older gentleman with bright round eyes and a warm smile played for them. Angie couldn’t stop tapping her feet. That music was swinging and the gentleman was the one and only Count Basie. The seed was planted!
The path to singing jazz has not been a straight one for Wells. However, one night in Paris redirected her journey forever when she joined the band playing at the intimate Chez Papa for a few tunes.
In the very early stages of her musical journey Angie earned a semifinalist position in the first Annual Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and won the new talent competition at the final Sweet n’ Hot Jazz Festival in Los Angeles. She has played and recorded with some of the best musicians in the world.
Angie' latest recording project titled "TRUTH BE TOLD" is produced by the legendary John Clayton and is set to release February 2023
