Ani Saafa are a four piece indie band, formed at the end of 2022. Birthed into the Dunedin music scene and wishing to go against their “reggae rock” influenced peers, the band channels the energy of indie/garage rock, adding their own influences of grunge, punk, and alternative pop.
After gaining traction and popularity in Dunedin, the group made quite an impact beyond their local scene. In 2024 playing both OUSA & UCSA O-week/Re-O festivals, opening for acts Park Rd and Eli Superfly, and embarking on a National Tour (Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, Wānaka, Queenstown, and Dunedin) fueled by the release of their debut EP, “Phonetics”.
Continuing their momentum into 2025, the band opened for Australian band, Hockey Dad, on the South Island legs of their Aotearoa Tour (February 7th, 8th), and released their best performing track yet, “Gripes” on the 25th of February, accompanied by a music video on Youtube.
Ani Saafa is now based in Wellington, with new material on the way and more shows to see.
