Joel Rapi grew up in Stockholm with an American father and Swedish mother. At home his father would play a lot of classical music and Joel especially recall Dvorak’s “New World Symphony” being played frequently. After watching Gene Kelly’s “Singing in the Rain” at age 7, Joel performed the song for his class mates in school until they eventually got fed up and begged him to stop.
In 1994 Joel moved to Los Angeles to study music at Musicians Institute of Technology. After graduation he returned to Sweden where he eventually started a travel company.
Joel has Collaborated with John Arthur Lewis on several songs where both music and lyrics have been written during jam sessions at the spur of the moment.
Improvising with other musicians who share a similar passion for creating music by letting the moment decide where the music goes, is something Joel finds highly satisfying.
