Anna. Luca

Coming from a family of classical musicians, the German-Swedish singer and composer Anna.Luca started her musical career at the piano. As a classical trained pianist she experimented with pop and electronic music and fell in love with jazz.
Combining the different genres and the musical tradition of her Swedish heritage has always been appealing to the composer Anna Luca Mohrhenn. Her upcoming album SMALL FRIENDLY GIANT is therefore first of all a journey to trace her own roots – a musical journey through her own biography. Like her two languages, classical music, pop and jazz are inseparably woven together in her compositions. Anna Luca has poured her own history into her music and and has given it the melodical abstraction, that you can find in jazz music, if you let it run free. Structure and outbreak alternate, improvisations are folllowed by pre-composed, polyphone structures. Scandinavian melancholy and complex rhythmical structures can unfold together organically.
Anna.Luca and her band are pursuing musical and lyrical freedom, as much as for unpretentious transparency. Playful at one moment, expressive and intense at the next. Fairytales blurr together with long gone memories, urban complexity changes into dark woods and in it all lies the wish to catch life´s entirety in a single glimpse of a moment.
