Anton Aldgasser was a composer and organist who was probably taught by Eberlin (having later married Eberlin's daughter). He studied violin as well and his music is marked in its baroque character but also provided a transition to the classical style. Aldgasser's sacred and non-sacred music alike were influential during his life time and into the next century. His compositions also include a number of keyboard and instrumental works, oratorios, an Italian opera, singspiels and dramatic German works. Aldgasser was known by The Mozarts (both Leopold and Wolfgang) and in collaboration with Michael Haydn and Wolfgang, wrote the oratorio "Die Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebotes". The positions which Aldgasser held speak well of his abilities. These positions included both court and cathedral organist in Salzburg, and organist of Trinity church. Anton Aldgasser was succeeded by Michael Haydn only after Anton's death while playing for evening services. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
