With their unique and intoxicating blend of electronica, saudade, and alternative pop with a worldly touch, Ão has rapidly become one of the most exciting acts in Belgium’s rich and diverse music scene. Frontwoman Brenda Corijn, drawing on her Mozambican-Portuguese roots, sings in both Portuguese and English. Her mellifluous voice intertwines with the southern guitar stylings of Siebe Chau, the textured electronics of Jolan Decaestecker, and the eclectic percussion of Bert Peyffers.

The first single Talvez, Portuguese for “maybe,” is a confrontation disguised as a summery melody: the story of someone who has fled from everything, and just when she thinks she’s finally gone for good, she runs into someone from her past. “Talvez você se lembra da minha escuridão” — "Maybe you only remember my darkness." You can’t escape who you’ve been, no matter how far you travel.

Oh, and what "Ão" - pronounced as [ɐ͂w̃] - means? Depending on the pronunciation, it could be something beautiful, something sad or something painful, express wonder or plain nonsense.
