Formed in Amsterdam in 2010, Apneu burst onto the scene with infectious garage songs, mostly under two minutes. Now in their second decade, they have shown themselves comfortable exploring both jangly guitar pop and nervy post-punk.
Apneu made their name in the Amsterdam underground with energetic debut LP Boy Problems (2011), followed by the EP Ununbreak My Heart (2012). Both were released independently. Their second LP Hard Feelings (2014), released by Subroutine Records, was a critical success and brought the band to the attention of a wider audience. For their next project, Apneu worked with two giants of Dutch indie rock, Roald van Oosten (Caesar) and Henk Jonkers (Hallo Venray), as producers. The sessions resulted in two releases: an EP, Wrote a Letter / Tore It Up (2015), followed by an LP, This Will Never Happen to Us (2016). The new work saw the band refining their brand of erratic power pop with more layered arrangements.
For their fourth studio album, Apneu traveled to Stuttgart to record with acclaimed producer Ralv Milberg (Die Nerven). Silvester (2020) finds the band jolting into their second decade with a newfound sense of urgency, exploring new moods and sounds. Recorded live in an inspired five-day streak, the album is both their rawest and most accomplished. Confidently, Apneu add to their palette a cutthroat sincerity, ominous noise and dissonant melancholy.
