Apple Orchard began as a side project by brothers Ryan Marquez of Sodajerk, and Dale Marquez of Sonnet LVIII. Their first appearance came in the now much sought-after Filipino CD compilation, Mutual Admiration Society in 2001.
What followed were a slew of 4-track cassette recordings that appeared in compilations from Secret Crush Records and Dorothy Records, as well as cassette EPs released by Popgun Recordings and Best Kept Secret. Some of these lo-fi recordings were released by Humblebee Recordings in 2006 as a 7" single, A Hiding Smile.
The duo abandoned the 4-track and switched to digital, and the sound progressed to a more dreamy, atmospheric sound. While remnants of their early sound can still be traced on the 2007 EP, That Happy Glow (Cloudberry Records), their only album, Half-steps Toward Bright Skies, released in 2008 on their own label, Haymarket, leaned more on a love affair with dream pop.
Turning Point EP also came out in 2008 via Edition 59, and Haymarket released the Leafy Lanes EP in 2009. In 2010, they contributed a song for the Television Personalities tribute released by The Beautiful Music.
The last two releases were the noisier, A Month Of Spring 7" (2010 Haymarket Recordings), and the split 7" with The Proctors (2012 Luxury/Dufflecoat Records).
After 8 years in hibernation, A Slow Dissolve appeared in 2020.
