In the spring of 2011, a group of seasoned St. Louis music scene stalwarts started Supermoon – selecting that name because of a recent spate of appearances of “super moons” … the occasional lunar phenomenon when the moon looks really big and imposing due to its orbital position. After a few name changes and line-up changes, the band became Aquitaine, seeking to sonically answer the questions “what would happen if Ian Curtis shared a prison cell with Mick Jones?” “What happens when you cross-pollinate The Jam with the Kinks?” “And what if Echo and the Bunny men would have been born in a city on the Mississippi rather than in a city on the Mersey?” Aquitaine started playing the resulting answers/songs very loudly in clubs in the St. Louis area, immediately attracting a limited but loyal following. Their first EP, “American Pulverizer: Part 1” was recorded at Sawhorse Studios and had friend and Grammy-winning producer Greg Thompson handle the mixing in NYC. "American Pulverizer: Part 2" followed a few years later, also recorded at Sawhorse with Thompson handling the final mix; and the band recorded the full-length "Transformation" at Mound Sound before going on a hiatus shortly thereafter, where they remain... for now...
