Arthur Melo, a Brazilian composer, guitarist and singer returns to releasing music after a 4 year break, with a new album Mirantes Emocionais. Backed by his band/collective O Ministério da Consciência the album it’s a work that pays homage to Arthur’s heroes of Brazilian music from the ‘70s and ‘80s yet goes much beyond throwback. Treading new paths and placing Arthur in a venerable category of explorative, young Brazilian artists.
Produced by himself and Lucca Noacco and Mixed by Kassin, the album it's available now via Wondefulsound with the singles Álvaro Almeida a new-wave and synth-pop tune with a 1980’s Brazilian boogie flavour, perhaps reminiscent of Marcos Valle or Djavan, Na Avenida com Benito a sloping number and ode to the classic Brazilian samba Retalhos de Cetim by the legend Benito di Paula and Do Colostro ao Osso, a bass leaded indie rock number with soft distorted vocals.
“Simple, lovely songs. They’re understated at first blush but then your ears catch on to their weird contours, the unexpected incidents…21st century bossa scribbling at the margins” UNCUT ★★★★ (UK)
“Melo by name and mellow by nature, Mirantes Emocionais offers some seriously laid-back music bathed in 70s effects” Songlines ★★★★ (UK)
“Dazzling Brazilian Alt-pop escapade” Backseat Mafia
“Arthur Melo has a careful hand and a grasp on what’s timely as he crafts dreamy new música popular brasileira on his luscious new LP” Pop Matters (US)
