Asafo Weedamiah Bio
He is a pan-Africanist. He is a warrior. He is a poet. He is RasTafari. He is Asafo Weedamiah, a man who lives his truth and speaks it in rare, fearless form.
From his origins in Clarendon, Jamaica to his current base in Orlando, Florida, Asafo Weedamiah has grown to merge his activism with his artistic expressions, placing himself in service to, and in defense of, Africans worldwide. Fittingly, the Akan origin of his name (Asafo) refers to traditional warrior groups - a combination of the word for “war” (sa) with the word for “people” (fo).
Asafo’s sheer output of works truly makes him seem more plural rather than a single individual. Embodying the examples of his foremost influences, the Hon. Marcus Garvey and H.I.M. Emperor Haile Selassie I, he has been contributing passionately to his community in various fields. As an educator, he helped to establish the Afrikan Kulcha School (AKS), where he is a volunteer teacher. In media, he is a broadcaster and founder of BLAK IWA TV and KingKalonji Sounds; and he is also a self-taught engineer, video producer and director. In social enterprise, he is a founding president of the Association of Rastafari Creatives (ARC), working to raise capital for projects and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of the global RasTafari nation.
Asafo Weedamiah’s debut album, Itiopian in Exile, is a 13-track collection of hard-hitting musical pieces, produced by JAH David Goldfine of Zion High Productions/Zion I Kings.
