Aspen It Is emerged from northern New Jersey around 2002, forging a vivid blend of punk energy, emo heart, pop hooks, catchy beats, & indie-rock grit. Their raw, emotionally charged sound became a local touchstone.
1st lineup (2002–2005): Oscar (drums), Danny (lead guitar), Jesse (bass, vocals), & Jimmy (rhythm guitar, vocals) formed the core. Their early shows - fueled by Coke-can slams, heartfelt lyrics, & irresistibly crunchy riffs - laid the foundation for fans who craved raw authenticity. They recorded the eponymous Aspen It Is (EP, 2003), The Band Is Dirty the Song Is Clean (EP, 2004), and the singles Everybody Get Down Someone’s Got an AK (2004) & Diary Entry to Family and Friends (2004).
2nd lineup (2005–2006): In 2005 Sean swooped in on lead guitar. This era saw some expansion and experimentation in their sound and arrangements, with sweet hooks and a sharp delivery that resulted in Release Me! From the Weights of Gravity (LP, 2006).
3rd lineup (2006–2007): Later in 2006 Justin arrived on guitar, joining Oscar, Jesse, Sean, and Jimmy. With a five-piece setup the band’s texture grew richer; dual guitar interplay, fuller choruses, and a resonance that brought new intensity to live shows.
The Aspen It Is spirit, emotionally unfiltered songwriting, irresistible beats, & genre-blending energy made them an enduring figure in the NJ underground scene - one whose melodic hooks and heartfelt honesty still echo in the hearts of old fans and continue to inspire new ones.
