During the 70's the United States and the USSR were deadlocked in a race to discover that which laid beyond a mere 10 miles from the Earth’s surface. Satellites, manned orbital missions, samples from the Moon, and continued exploration of the other planets in our solar system continued to peak the public’s interest.

In a twist of cosmic fate, the 1970s also produced the founding members of Astral Mass: Nick Ciobotaru, Jeff Kaleth, and Mike Naish. Throughout their humble midwestern beginnings, heavy metal and outer space would significantly influence what they would consume as fans as well as what they would produce as musicians.

As heavy metal and space exploration continued to progress, so did our anti-heroes. Doom, stoner, thrash, death, and black metal have equally influenced Astra Mass as did the fatal Challenger explosion, the International Space Station, the declassification of Pluto as a ‘dwarf planet (which is total bullshit, I must say), and landing a craft on a comet.

Our vision is to continue the tradition of the Riff, blending gravel-choked and soul piercing vocals with our obsession of the Beyond. Astral Mass merges heaviness with groove to tell of mankind leaving Earth, traveling through time, and colonizing outside of our solar system to perpetuate existence.

Time, space, science, and loud-ass heavy fucking metal will continue to influence Astral Mass’ musical style and lyrical content. We’ll see you in outer space.
