Their band name "Asylum" was inspired by their dirty vocalist, Ben Jenkins, who explained it as "…a concept describing where we write our music from. All of the mental anguish we’ve experienced that inspires our sound and lyrics makes us feel a little crazy or insane at points". Josh Riviera, the group's lead guitarist, comically contributed "…so instead of checking ourselves into a mental hospital or going to therapy, we started screaming and shredding". The trio's drummer, Gabe Riviera, expands on this point, stating "…the heavy words we write are just us trauma dumping to the listener, pulling from deep places of depression that have driven us mad at moments throughout each of our lives - and the many lessons learned from them". Their chunky riffs, perfectly paced breakdowns, and dynamic lyrical structure have fans itching to see the trio reunite once more in the future.
