Atine is a Persian word that means « United » but also « unpercedented », two words aptly describe this group, With its member comming from different backgrounds and coming together to offer us music steeped in these ancient and diverse influences.
Nevertherless, Atine’s music remains undeniably Persian, very much of the present. The group’s five musicians traverse both scholarly and popular music. The refined arrangements of Persian music, the interwoven cascades of the tar and qanun, the agility of the tombak drum, and the profound nobility of the vocals are here enriched by the dark reflections of the European viola de gamba.
It’s a magnificent gathering whose project is to explore what it means to be Persian today.
