“Your normal disposition, it’s fighting with your soul.” Multi-instrumentalist Atom Lazare’s music is as mysterious as his demeanor. A quiet man with a lot to say, his songs reflect intricate details of daily circumstances like slow-motion moments in classic movie scenes. Hailing from a small town off the coast of British Columbia, Canada, Lazare brings an island feel to his music, driven by groove, balanced with his fusion-forward instrumentalist tendencies. A drummer at heart and songwriter by trade, Atom’s repertoire is a whole expression of himself, delivering the perfect dichotomy between rhythm and fluidity.
Atom’s debut EP, The Word, is a window into his early inspiration, deeply rooted in spirituality and carrying a wisdom that is portrayed in the communication between instruments, played mostly by himself. At the tender age of twenty-two, Lazare is unafraid to touch on heavy subjects such as substance abuse and unfaithfulness.
Lazare’s rhythmic background delves into his formative years and continues with his acceptance into the Gulf Islands School for Performing Arts as a drummer and composer. Shortly after, at only seventeen, he was runner-up in Victoria Drum Fest’s ‘Drumeo Drum Solo Contest,’ performing at the festival’s prestigious event in Victoria, BC.
Technique lays the foundation for Lazare’s songs, while mystery remains the glue that holds them together.
