Sara Baggini is an Italian songwriter, born in a small town among the Alps, then moved to Perugia where she graduated at the Academy of Arts. The name ’Augustine’ is taken from the hysterical woman protagonist of Georges Didi-Huberman’s essay 'Invention of Hysteria', since the paradoxical condition of hysteria is assumed by her as paradigm of the artistic work, especially when it is bonded to a complex and problematic feminine sensitivity.
The imaginary of her songs feeds on literature (Virginia Woolf and Sylvia Plath) and painting (the Pre-Raphaelites and Dante Gabriel Rossetti) as well as on music. Most of her influences come from the British post-punk, dream-pop and dark scene of the eighties.
Her last home-recorded album ‘Grief And Desire’ released on February 2018. It is conceived as a sort of diary or autobiographical novel, where the 15 tracks are the chapters. The nature of this project is very intimate and introspective, which fits in with the place that gave birth to it (a small house in the Umbrian countryside where the songwriter lives); hence the choice of home-recording and vocal layering as modus operandi. In fact, such a reflective and withdrawn mood couldn’t let anybody else join the project, in these first phase. Each instrument (guitars, bass, percussions, software drums, keyboards and synths) is played, recorded and programmed and by herself. In the ultimate phase of the work, the producer Daniele Rotella joined the songwriter in the track mix.
