Austin and the In-Laws is the North Country's premier post-outlaw band.
What started as guitarist Austin Petrashune and drummer Matt Hall playing side gigs for cash during the plentiful downtime from their more well-known group, The Mountain Carol, grew into something with a life of its own. The duo spent several years delighting crowds with authentic covers of outlaw country music, often joined by Austin's mother, Ann, on the bass guitar. Their love for the Western storytelling found in those songs deepened over time, as did their skill for crafting melodies as memorable as the classics they showcased; in 2022, before a summer season of performances across northern New York's bars and breweries, the band recorded five of their original tunes for an EP titled "Songs from the Woodshed," a familiar-feeling mix of classic and modern voices in the tradition of that American music which never seems to die.
