Austin Jones and The Bootheel boys are an Americana band, through-and-through. To them, that means telling stories and merging tradition with compelling new ideas. It means singing their sorrows and leaving them behind. When Austin Jones and The Bootheel Boys meet in their hometown of Columbia, Missouri their special blend of Americana – from the Delta to Appalachia to Texas and back – unites Austin Jones’s lyrics with those stories, the kind that truly make you want to dance. Or cry for home. Or – if it really works – both.
Raised in St. Louis Austin Jones had already begun to write and perform as a freshman in high school, seizing every opportunity to perform. Austin found solace in songwriting, creating melodies that reflected bitter emotions as well as joyous celebrations. He soon sought out musicians to add texture and tone to the stories he wanted to tell. Once established, Austin’s first inspiration was to form and re-form the Bootheel Boys for every gig, an idea pulled from the be-bop music he grew up with. This brought an excitement and energy to every gig that still rings in the band's performances today. Over time though, he solidified a group of musicians to form a permanent band that he could truly write and grow with.
The Bootheel Boys are guitarist Caleb Alexander, drummer Jacob Sommerscales, bassist Zack Clark, organist Greg Aker, and saxophonist Rob McGrath. When the band breaks it down, these songs can really move.
